July 6th, 2009 | by JeremySOutSync is a small little Windows application that is used to pull the pictures from your Facebook friends and apply that to the matching contacts in Outlook.
*Note: I have blurred the bulk of my contacts names, pictures and information for their privacy.
Microsoft Betas: Microsoft Security Essentials
June 28th, 2009 | by JeremySMicrosoft recently began to beta their replacement for One Care called Micrsoft Security Essentials ( MSE ).
While downloads for the beta have officially been cut off, there are a few other sites on the net you can find it on, just make sure you download the right one for your operating system as there are different versions for Windows XP and Windows Vista/Windows 7, and both also have 32bit and 64 bit variations.
Now, lets take a look at what this looks like once it’s installed:
20 Tools to Make the Life of a Web Developer Easier
June 13th, 2009 | by JeremySYes, I know I’m just linking to another article, but it’s got some great info:
http://net.tutsplus.com/articles/web-roundups/20-tools-to-make-the-life-of-a-web-developer-easier/
A great site for finding open source alternatives: http://www.osalt.com/ check it out if you don’t want to pay $$$ for software that you need.
While looking for a couple different programs for different purposes, I stumbled across two programs that I thought I’d share.
OpenProj – Basically a free version of Microsoft Project, used to make schedules for projects.
Pdfsam – PDF Split and Merge – While CutePDF has the ability to create PDF files, it can’t edit them once they’re already created. This little gem is perfect for merging 2 PDFs into one, or splitting one into 2. It’s a simple program and maybe for a very specific purpose, but useful nonetheless.
Scribus is an Open Source alternative to Microsoft Publisher, Quark, and Adobe Pagemaker. Obviously not quite as powerful as it’s competitors, but a lot less expensive!
While searching for a free equivalent to Lightwave or 3D Studio Max, I stumbled on Blender. It’s somewhat of a pain in the butt to learn how to use, but there is a lot of help on the websites, plus it’s FREE! Let me know what you think.
Free Alternatives to Common Software Programs
September 17th, 2008 | by torI’m sure there are other lists out there that do just this, but these are solutions that I’ve found for Windows XP:
- Microsoft Office – OpenOffice
- Antivirus Software: AVG Antivirus
- Photoshop – GIMP
- Illustrator – Inkscape
- Adobe Acrobat – CutePDF (Although this functionality is built into OpenOffice)
- Antispam: Ad-aware Free Version
- Microsoft Frontpage/Adobe Dreamweaver – Kompozer
I’ll add more as I find them, but if you have any suggestions, post them!
